A 65-year-old Calgary man died Saturday while skiing near Fernie, B.C.
Ted Rhodes, a former Windsor Star and Calgary Herald photographer, was admitted to hospital with serious injuries around 5pm following a skiing incident at Fernie Alpine Resort. RCMP said he succumbed to his injuries before police arrived at the hospital.
Police say Rhodes was skiing with a friend when he hit an icy stretch and lost control, sending him sliding into a tree.
“Our thoughts and care are with him and his family,” Fernie Alpine Resort said in a statement to Postmedia.
The BC Coroners Service is investigating Rhodes’ death, but the RCMP do not believe the incident was criminal in nature.
Rhodes was a talented photographer and worked for years as chief photographer at the Calgary Herald before retiring a few years ago.
