Even though she lives her life in the spotlight, Dolly Parton makes a conscious effort to keep most of her relationship with husband Carl Dean under wraps. So much so that some have even speculated that it doesn’t actually exist.

Dolly recently joined The Kelleigh Bannen Show as a guest on Apple Music Country to share how she maintains the boundaries she has set for herself and Dean, based on her mother’s past advice.
“I learned very early. And I think my mom told me when I was young, ‘Always keep something for yourself. You can give what you have to give, but don’t give it all. Always keep something for yourself,” she said.
The country music queen met her husband in 1964 when she first moved to Nashville. Back then, she came to Music City to pursue her dreams. She achieved that goal, to say the least, and along the way, she also fell in love with Dean. It only took two years to get to know each other before the couple knew they were ready to wed.
How she rose to fame and he chose to keep her life out of the public eye as much as possible. Nevertheless, their love flourished. In 2016, they celebrated 50 years of marriage, where Dean released a heartfelt statement about his wife.
“My first thought was, ‘I’m going to marry this girl,’ he recalled. ‘My second thought was, ‘Lord, she’s beautiful.’ And that was the day my life began. I wouldn’t trade the past 50 years for anything on this earth.
The 76-year-old singer-songwriter explained that it has become “natural” to maintain intimacy throughout the relationship. In the long run, it was beneficial for both.
“I knew how to keep my husband private. It’s only natural for me to protect the things and people I love and protect my own privacy,” she shared.
“There is a part that belongs to God and to me,” she continued. “It’s a sacred place that belongs only to me and to God, and I knew how to do it because I think God ordained it. I also pray that God gives me enough to share and enough to save when it comes to my money but also myself. Let me share all I can, but let me keep myself.

The “9 to 5” singer shared glimpses of their love through photos on social media. Most recently, she shared a throwback Valentine’s Day photo of her and her hubby kissing her on the cheek.
