True crime fans will soon have another documentary to sink their teeth into when Netflix releases the Argentinian investigative film The Photographer: Murder in Pinamar (The fotógrafo y el cartero: el crimen de Cabezas) This can.

The provocative story concerns Argentinian photojournalist José Luis Cabezas, who was kidnapped, tortured and then murdered in 1997. Cabezas was last seen at an exclusive beach resort renowned for attracting some of the most powerful people in the country. This crime not only shook the country, but it exposed a sinister political and financial conspiracy.

Alejandro Hartmann directed the documentary in addition to executive producing and writing assistance alongside co-writers Tatiana Mereñuk and Gabriel Bobillo. Vanessa Ragone and Mariela Besuievsky are also executive producers of the feature film hailing from Argentina.

The documentary film hits Netflix on May 19 alongside other Netflix Originals like A perfect match, Rodrigo Sant’Anna: I have arrived, The Boss Baby: Back in the Crib and The G Word with Adam Conover. The new content hits Netflix at 12:00 a.m. PT / 3:00 a.m. ET.

Synopsis of The Photographer: Murder in Pinamar

Set in the late 1990s, this chilling crime occurred shortly after Cabezas posted a photo of businessman Alfredo Yabrán, who allegedly had ties to corrupt government officials and who, sadly , did not want his picture taken. The documentary delves into what happened to Cabezas and the underlying conspiracies of the time.
