Contrary to the tweet, the 100th anniversary of the Royal Air Force took place in 2018.

The first image that was posted was incorrect

The error was quickly corrected and the old image was replaced with a glorious image of the monarch during one of her last royal engagements with Prince Philip before he retired from office.

Pictured, the couple visit ZSL Zoo in Whipsnade in April 2017 and are captured alongside a majestic elephant who appear to have warmed up to the royal couple after offering their trunks.

The Queen and Prince Philip looked happier than ever in the photo and even the elephant appears to be sporting a smile for the royal occasion.

The replacement showed the queen feeding the elephant a banana

Fans were thrilled with the new image. A follower replied to the post, “Such a beautiful photo of Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh. The elephant does not hesitate to befriend the Royal Family #hm70.”

A second wrote, “Love this pic so much for the three in it. Great timing and composition.”

A third replied: “So adorable.” A fourth wrote: “How sweet.” A fifth wrote: “Best smiles”, while others left heart-eye emojis.

Iconic images so far have featured Her Majesty alongside the Pope, Nelson Mandela and even the Pat Postman.
