The Ole Miss men’s basketball team and basketball staff took to the field for their first official practice on Wednesday. The team is 100% vaccinated and looking forward to playing a match with the supporters in the stands at full capacity.
Before basketball practice, a press conference was held with Jarkel Joiner, Jaemyn Brakefield and coach Kermit Davis. They spoke enthusiastically of being ready to be back with their entire squad and ready for a full “normal” season.

“People are just excited to be here,” Davis said. “This is the first time that I have seen the bleachers pushed to the pavilion in over a year because of COVID. Everything is ready for the game, like a few years ago.”
As a transfer student, I didn’t really get to experience the atmosphere of a basketball game. I went to two games before COVID really hit the Ole Miss campus in March 2020. I remember seeing Morgan Freeman making several appearances on the field and watching the student section of “Club Red” throw up red pom poms.
It is almost time for everything to come back.
Now that I work for The Grove Report and Sports Illustrated, I’m ready to capture the emotions of Ole Miss fans and all the raw emotions on the pitch from a camera lens.
An exhibition match will take place against Trevecca on November 5th. The season opener will be in the SJB pavilion against New Orleans on November 9.
Both games have TBA status for the game’s tip-off.
